INTRODUCTION

“Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”            Psalm 90:12

“Show me O LORD, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting is my life.  You have made my days as but a handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you.  Each man’s life is but a breath.”  Psalm 39:4,5

“Now listen, you who say,  “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.”  Why you do not even know what will happen tomorrow.  What is your life?  You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.  Instead you should say,  “If it is the Lord’s will, we will do this or that.”  James 4:13-15

So many of us have plans for our future ‘tomorrows,’ but we don’t stop to consider the possibility that we may not have many tomorrows left…for us, or with those whom God has placed in our lives.

A recent health issue God has allowed in my life, has brought the importance of living each day as if it could be our last, as something we really should do.  It  caused me to reflect upon many circumstances that people have shared with me that I pray about, and the need for the people in these situations to have their eyes opened by God, so they see the precious time they are allowing to slip away from them.

Some of us are allowing the pain of our past to rob us of experiencing joy in our present lives, with those who love us and desire love in return.  Some of us are also running from future blessings that God so desires to give to us… in His timing, if only we would cry out to Him and receive the  forgiveness He offers us through Christ,  as well as emotional healing from the past, and cleansing from guilt…genuine, as well as false guilt.

Many suffer from false guilt because they have been victims of sexual abuse at the hands of a teacher, a trusted neighbor, or sadly even at the hands of a family member, relative, or spouse.  They recoil at even the thought of intimacy.

In marriage, it can also be physical adultery or adultery through thoughts brought on by viewing pornography, that bring division and destruction to a relationship, and robs precious and valuable time they could be having with their spouse.  Those who turn to anything or anyone other than their spouse, to satisfy themselves on an emotional and/or physical level, are betraying their spouse and hurting them and themselves, more deeply than they could ever imagine.

Having a personal relationship with God, through receiving Jesus as Savior from sin and surrendering our lives to Him, not only allows us to have the deep void in our lives to be filled with His love, but it also allows God to cleanse our consciences from all guilt.  And if we take the time to read His Word on a daily basis, He will renew our minds with the truth of His Word, so that we can have a proper understanding of love, and in time, we will be able to give love unselfishly, and receive love, and enjoy being one intimately on every level with our spouse.  We can have a relationship that is beautiful, satisfying, and glorifying to God, the way God intended marriage between a man and a woman to be.

Life is so short; we need to take time to be with those we love and really listen to them with our undivided attention…with no cell phones or computers on.  We never know if the time we are having with them will be our very last.  A tragic accident, a sudden medical emergency, may end any future time we will ever have with them again, and possibly leave us with guilt and regrets.

Those of us who have accepted Jesus as Savior from sin and Lord of our lives, should also have an eternal perspective concerning this as well…we may never know if the time we now have with our unsaved loved ones will be the very last opportunity we may have to share the hope they can have in Christ that God has revealed to us, before they slip out into eternity.  Let’s not allow life’s distractions or attempts of the ‘enemy of our souls,’ cause us to be lazy or unprepared to give them an answer for the hope that we have been given because of Christ.

Yes, God is the only one who can draw them to Himself (John 6:44) and grant them repentance, (2 Timothy 2:25) but we must also do our part to make the most of every opportunity God gives us to ‘train our children in the way they should go’ and to look for opportunities to share His love and truth with all whom He brings into our lives.

Please take the time to hug those you love a little closer and longer today, turn from any sinful choices in your lives that destroy your intimacy with God and with a present or future spouse, receive God’s love and forgiveness from sin and healing from past and present painful circumstances, and be prepared to make the most of every opportunity God gives you to share His love and truth with those whom He has placed in your lives.

Reach out and love with your words and actions as if today could be the last day you have been given, and live each day in such a way that you will have no regrets.

God bless you : )

REACH OUT AND LOVE

A dad sits unresponsive, to his children’s joyous cries as they play,

As once again he drinks some beers, to numb the pain of his past away,

Oh how they need his love and correction,

If only he’d see how they need his attention,

Reach out and love when God gives you the chance,

For time can be cut short by life’s circumstance,

Let God heal you from yesterday’s pain,

Receive God’s forgiveness and a new life you will gain,

A dad yells abusive words at his daughter, that continues to crush her heart,

Choosing to repeat the abuse from his father, his words begin to tear his whole family

 apart,

Oh how they need his praise and affection,

If only he’d give them his love and attention,

Reach out and love when God gives you the chance,

For time can be cut short by life’s circumstance,

Let God heal you from yesterday’s pain,

Receive God’s forgiveness and a new life you will gain,

A mom continuing to talk on her cell phone, ignores the pleas of her son to play,

If only she knew that a year from now, a tragedy would  be taking her precious child’s

 life away,

Oh how he needs her love and affection,

If only she’d give him her undivided attention,

Reach out and love when God gives you the chance,

For time can be cut short by life’s circumstance,

Don’t let life’s distractions rob precious moments from you,

Time passes much too quickly, you know this to be true,

A man meets a woman whom God has placed in his life,

He knows in his heart she would make a great wife,

Lingering fears and mistrust keeps him from making a choice,

He continues to ignore God’s still small voice,

Reach out and love when God gives you the chance,

For time can be cut short by life’s circumstance,

Let God heal you from all fear from the past,

A marriage built on Christ can be one that will last,

A woman emotionally broken because of the abuse from her dad,

Breaks off  the best relationship she has ever had,

Unable to silence the memories of all she’s been through,

She once again runs from saying,  “I do.”

Reach out and love when God gives you the chance,

For time can be cut short by life’s circumstance,

Come to Christ and He’ll wash your shame away,

No matter what you’ve been through, His healing can start today,

So many people without hope and in despair,

Need to hear God’s truth, and have someone show that they care,

We have received God’s love and truth that has miraculously set us free,

They have no hope at all in their lives, now or for eternity,

Reach out and share God’s love and truth when He gives you the chance,

For time can be cut short by life’s circumstance,

Read God’s Word and ask for His wisdom as you pray,

For from eternity they may be just one breath away.
