INTRODUCTION (UPDATED ) NOVEMBER 20, 2011

Some time ago, I heard on my ‘Christian’ radio station… (I use that term loosely, because of the questionable things they have presented to their listeners, such as promoting Rick Warren, and reading from, and promoting the *’Jesus Calling’ devotional book by Sarah Young.  *Please consider reading the information on this at the links below.  We really need to be aware of the spiritual deception that is taking place in the church and in ‘Christianity’ in general, today!) …that there have been certain churches where the people decided that instead of getting together at church on Sundays to worship God and to hear God’s Word being preached, they were closing down their churches on some Sundays and getting together to go out into their communities to feed the poor, and to paint homes of the elderly and those who were physically or financially unable to do so themselves.  The basic idea of getting together to help others in need sounds wonderful, but not at the cost of neglecting the preaching of the Word of God.  Sadly this trend seems to be growing in popularity, and is better known as the ‘social gospel.’

Yes, sometimes it’s true, that, as the saying goes,  “People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care,” meaning that, before some people will listen to what you have to say about Jesus, they need to know that you care about what they are going through in life, and that you are willing to help them in some way.  However, if the complete focus is on meeting the people’s physical needs, and not on their spiritual needs, then what good is it if they are being clothed and fed in this lifetime, only to spend an eternity in hell?!  No matter how hard we try, we as the church will never be able to eradicate poverty or hunger.  Jesus Himself said in John 12:8 “You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have Me.”

Many churches now, are also adopting the idea of,  “Let’s give the people messages about God’s love, and not mention ‘sin’…we don’t want to offend anyone and cause them to not want to come to church anymore.”  Many preachers are giving people a false gospel that satisfies their flesh, but will sadly send them to an eternity in hell, because they need the life-giving message of the gospel…the fact that we are all sinners in need of a Savior, and that God poured out His wrath intended for all of us upon His sinless Son–Jesus Christ–God in the flesh, who bore our sins upon Himself on the cross, and died as our substitute, taking the penalty that we deserve for our sins, and rising from the dead for our justification.

“He was delivered over to death for our sins, and was raised to life for our justification.”  (Romans 4:25)

“Again, the gift of God is not like the result of the one man’s sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification.”  (Romans 5:16)

“Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for all men.”  (Romans 5:18)

Many of us are also finding that ‘new age/new spirituality’ practices are entering our churches, and that there is a ‘shift’ taking place where there is much less focus on the preaching of God’s Word, and instead the focus has shifted to looking back at the Catholic mystics of the past, and on the ways they experimented with in an attempt to ‘connect with God’  …’Contemplative Prayer,’ ( blanking out your mind in order to ‘hear from God’), ‘Lectio Divina,’ (The ancient practice of praying the Scriptures) , ‘Mantra Meditation,’ now repackaged and ‘Christianized’ by calling it ‘praying with your sacred word.’

Have we as the church, forgotten our main reason for being here;  To reveal to mankind their need for a Savior, and to share the good news of the gospel with those who have not heard that because of the love and mercy of God, He poured out all His wrath upon His Son, God in the flesh, who was willing to become a sacrifice for our sins.

What about those who have left cults and are searching for a church where they can find the true gospel?  Where will they go in order to hear the truth of God’s Word, when so many preachers today have drifted so far from Biblical Christianity?  What will happen to them, if we are not willing to share Biblical truth with them, when it is so hard to find a church that is actually preaching the true gospel today?  Will we be a voice of truth when we are among the minority standing for Biblical truth?

**ADDED NOVEMBER 7TH 2011  What I am about to share with you (that I give all the glory to God for), could not have taken place at a more perfect time, as I wrap up my thoughts on this poem concerning the relevancy and importance of sharing the gospel with others.  In my poem \‘DIE\’,  I shared with you about my young Buddhist friend, who I totally believe that God placed into my life, and how, even though she has become very special to me, I have learned to ‘die’ to self and give time to spending with her on days when I just want to go home and rest after a loooong day at work.  Well, God is clearly drawing her to Himself, and is softening her heart to ask me many questions about the Bible and Jesus, and to even ask if her beliefs are wrong.  Gently, but boldly, I shared the gospel with her, as I prayed and relied upon the Holy Spirit to use me to reveal the truth to her that only He is able to do.  As I worked together with  her on a project, I proceeded to answer some of her questions, after first taking time to pray and seek God on how to answer them.  She was not defensive or angry, but rather desiring to know the truth.  I stood in awe of the greatness of God and the power of the gospel to open the eyes of those in the darkest of spiritual deception!

I will update you on what God continues to do in her heart, and hope and pray that one day she will become my sister-in-Christ!

**UPDATE NOV. 20th 2011** Sadly, I found out that my friend and co-worker will be quitting in December, so she can better focus on her schooling.  However, I pray that God will continue our friendship so He can use me to share more Biblical truth with her.

SONGS  TO GIVE PRAISE TO GOD FOR WHAT HE IS DOING

Never underestimate the power of the gospel and the truth of God’s Word to open the eyes of those held captive by lies and deception!  Never allow fear to hold you back from sharing Biblical truth with those whom God will bring into your lives!  Be obedient to share God’s love and truth, and let God and the truth of His Word transform them, bringing them out of darkness into His light!

“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.  As the rain and the snow come down from heaven , and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is My Word that goes out from My mouth: It will not return to Me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I send it.”  (Isaiah 55:9-11)

Prepare yourself to look at the picture below that I chose to represent the main theme of my poem.  Though grotesque to look upon, it is an accurate representation of the spiritual condition of a person who does not feed on the life-giving Word of God, but instead seeks after the latest ‘revival’ or so-called ‘move of God,’ and the newest so-called ‘ways to connect with God.’

Rather than me continue on in my outrage at not only seeing a decline in the Word of God being preached in yet another way, but also because of the ‘new age/new spirituality practices being accepted by many in the church today, please reflect upon the Scriptures I posted below, and you can hear me express the rest of my concerns in the following poem.

God bless you, and thank you very much for stopping by and reading my poems.

I am also in the process of writing about what happened at my church this summer, and, Lord willing, I will publish it as a ‘page,’ so be watching for that…’Young Deceived And Placed In The Pulpit.’

I will also be writing about some more concerns I have because of what else is happening at my church.  That is untitled at the moment, but, Lord willing, I will share more information about that in the near future as well. ( UPDATE October 31, 2011 Decided not to write about this…but may change my mind again :))

INFORMATION ON ‘JESUS CALLING’ BOOK AND DEVOTIONAL BIBLE

SCRIPTURES FOR YOU TO REFLECT UPON

‘”At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures.  We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another.  But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, He saved us, not because of righteous things we have done, but because of His mercy.  He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that having been justified by His grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.”  (Titus 3:3-7)

“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”  (Romans 5:8)

“…it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.  Therefore, when Christ came into the world, He said: “Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body You prepared for Me; with burnt offerings and sin offerings You were not pleased.  Then I said,  ‘Here I am–it is written about Me in the scroll–I have come to do Your will, O God.’ ”  First He said,  “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings You did not desire, nor were You pleased with them” (although the law required them to be made).  Then He said,  “Here I am, I have come to do Your will.”  He sets aside the first to establish the second.  And by that will we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”  (Hebrews 10:4-10)

“This is how God showed His love: among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him.  This is love:  not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”  (1 John 4:9,10)

“In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of His appearing and His kingdom, I give you this charge:  Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and encourage–with great patience and careful instruction.  For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine.  Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.  They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.  ”  (2 Timothy 4:1-4)

“Therefore I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of all men.  For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God.  Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers.  Be shepherds of the church of God, which He bought with His own blood.  I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and not spare the flock.  Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them.  So be on your guard!  Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears!”  (Acts 20:26-31)

“I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes; first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.”  (Romans 1:16)

“That if you confess with your mouth , ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  For it is with your heart  that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.”  (Romans 10:9,10)

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven.”  (Matthew 7:21)

“Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’  and do not do what I say?”  I will show you what he is like who comes to Me and hears My words and puts them into practice.  He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock.  When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.  But the one who hears My word and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation.  The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”  (Luke 6:46-49)

“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.”  (Acts 3:19)

“In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now He commands all people everywhere to repent.”  (Acts 17:30)

“…I preached that they should repent and turn to God and prove their repentance by their deeds.”  (Acts 26:20)

VIDEO ON SIN AND REPENTANCE AND PREACHING THE GOSPEL

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE GOSPEL?

What happened to the gospel, forgiveness by God’s grace,

The good news that Jesus took God’s wrath for sin and died in our place,

What now is emerging, are sermons meant to satisfy man’s itching ears,

No more talk of sin to expose men’s hearts, so God’s Spirit would bring a man

to repentance and tears,

Rare today is preaching heard that convicts men’s souls, and makes them see

that they are lost,

And rare also is the revelation of the love of God, that our redemption was paid

with the highest cost,

What now is heard are ways to learn from mystics of the past,

The Bible is hardly elevated as God’s Word, to the wind it’s truth is cast,

Men willingly choose to reject God’s Word, and seek what’s ‘relevant’ to them instead,

And in so doing, they receive spiritual cyanide in place of life-giving bread,

Has the church forgotten the command of Christ, that we are to preach the gospel

and to be salt and light?

Have we forgotten about those trapped in spiritual darkness, and how they need God’s

truth to give them sight?

Arise and wake, men will soon run to and fro, looking for God’s Word in this final hour,

God’s famine for His Words of truth has begun, for men have rejected it in search for

signs and power,

‘Repent and return to God and His Word,’ should be our heartfelt cry,

To a church that’s deceived, for men’s words they believe, may they respond to God’s

Spirit as we try.
