As Mother’s Day approaches, not only am I filled with love and appreciation for my mom because of all she did for me, but also I am finding many emotions rising up within my heart concerning my children; emotions of ‘deep love’ for my daughter and son who are now grown and gone, ‘sadness,’ because I miss those days I shared with them as they were growing up, ‘joy,’ as I reflect upon fond memories of many precious moments I had with them when they were young, as well as ‘deep concern’ for their eternal destiny, because of certain things they have said during conversations I have had with them recently.

As Christians, those of us who have children can sometimes lose sight of the fact that it is only God, who, draws them to Himself (John 6:44) and who, by the power of His Holy Spirit, can cause someone to be ‘born again.’  (John 1:13, 3:1-8, 1 Peter 1:23, 1 John 2:28,29, 1 John 3:9, 4:7, 5:1,4,18) And yet we can sometimes feel like complete failures if our children do not respond to the truth of the gospel when we have continually presented it to them, as well as prayed with and for them, and daily read God’s Word to them.

But then the time comes all too soon, when they spread their wings and fly from the safety of home out of our sight and experience ‘freedom.’  They find themselves in the world filled with adventure, no curfews, and yes… temptations and sinful pleasures that appeal to the flesh, but ultimately bring regrets, guilt, consequences, and sadly, sometimes even destruction.

When the time comes for them to leave, it’s then that we as Christian parents learn that we must release them into the hands of God who loves them more deeply than we ever could.  We must continue to pray for them, but we can be at peace and not worry, if we rest in the fact that He truly is in control.

As much as we love our children, those of us who are Christians must remember that Jesus must always have first place in our hearts; our love for Him must greatly exceed even the depth of the love we have for our children, to the extent that our love for them is like ‘hate’ compared to the love we have for Christ .  (Luke 14:26)  Just as Abraham’s love for God was tested to see if it surpassed the love he had for his only son, Isaac, (Genesis 22:1-19) so our love for God may also be tested one day concerning our children.  Will we keep God as the main focus of our lives, and trust Him with the lives– as well as the eternal lives– of our children?  Or will we worry and fret over things that we don’t even have any control over to start with?  Let’s just seek God and ask Him to reveal His truth to our children, and ‘make the most of every opportunity’ He gives us to lovingly share His love and truth with them ‘with gentleness and with respect.’  And most importantly, let’s seek God and turn from any sin in our lives, so that our lives may be a true representation of one who claims to be a follower of Christ, so that we reflect God’s glory, and not bring shame to His name.  One day we will have to stand before God and give an account for how we have lived our lives.  That alone should make all of us tremble, and fill us with determination to ‘be holy as He is Holy.’  (1 Peter 1:16)

God bless you, and thank you very much for stopping by and taking time to read my poems.

** UPDATE** (Almost finished…Lord willing, will try to complete by Sunday evening, July 8th, 2012)**Lord Willing, Coming in June** …a poem about one of the last times I attended my church of over 14 1/2 years.  If you have left a church — or are presently considering leaving a church — because of some valid reasons you have, please consider coming back next month and leaving a comment expressing the reasons that sadly led some of you to leave your church, as well as some of the concerns you have about the church you are currently attending.  I would like to hear from all of you out there, and to encourage you as well.  It may be comforting for you to know, that sadly, you are not alone; many people are leaving their churches today because of what is happening in the name of ‘Christianity.’

In the meantime, please pray for discernment, continue to ‘test all things,’ (1 Thess. 5:21) be sure to listen closely to what is being said, and above all, ‘examine the Scriptures daily to see if what is being said (by your pastors and teachers who claim to speak for Christ) is true,’ (Acts 17:11) so that you will not be led into deception.  God bless you.

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and lean not on your own understanding.”  (Proverbs 3:5)

“Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.”  (Ephesians 6:4)

“Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.”  (Colossians 3:21)

“Be very careful, then, how you live–not as unwise, but as wise, making the most of every opporunity, because the days are evil.”  (Ephesians 5:15,16)

“Train a child in a way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.”  (Proverbs 22:6)

“He who fears the LORD has a secure fortress, and for his children it will be a refuge.”  (Proverbs 14:26)

“No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day.”  (John 6:44)

“He was in the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him.  He came to that which was His own, but His own did not receive Him.  Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God–children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.”  (John 1:10-13)

“…Jesus declared,  “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.”  “How can a man be born when he is old?”  Nicodemus asked.  “Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb to be born!”  Jesus answered,  “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.  Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.  You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’  The wind blows wherever it pleases.  You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going.  So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”  (John 3:3-8)

“For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring Word of God.”  (1 Peter 1:23)

“And now, dear children, continue in Him, so that when He appears we may be confident and unashamed before Him at His coming.  If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who does what is right has been born of Him.”  (1 John 2:28,29)

“No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.”  (1 John 3:9)

“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God.  Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.  Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.  This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him.  This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”  (1 John 4:7-10)

“Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves His Child as well.  This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out His commands.  This is love for God: to obey His commands.  And His commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world.  This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.  Who is it that has overcome the world?  Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.  This is the one who came by water and blood–Jesus Christ.  He did not come by water only, but by water and blood.  And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.  For there are three that testify: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and the three are in agreement.  We accept man’s testimony, but God’s testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God, which He has given about His Son.  Anyone who believes in the Son of God has this testimony in his heart.  Anyone who does not believe God has made Him out to be a liar, because he has not believed the testimony God has give about His Son.  And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.  He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.  I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.  This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.  And if we know that He hears us–whatever we ask–we know that we have what we asked of Him.   (1 John 5:1-15)

“We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the one who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him.”  (1 John 5:18)

“If we confess our sins He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”  (1 John 1:9)

“Make every effort to live in peace with all men, and to be holy; without holiness, no one will see the Lord.”  (Hebrews 12:14)

“But just as He who has called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”  (1 Peter 1:15,16)

“When they sin against You–for there is no one who does not sin–and You become angry with them and give the over to the enemy, who takes them captive to his own land, far away or near; and if they have a change of heart in the land where they are held captive, and repent and plead with you in the land of their conquerors and say,  “We have sinned, we have done wrong, we have acted wickedly,’ and if they turn back to You with all their heart and soul in the land of their enemies who took them captive and pray to You toward the land You gave their fathers, toward the city You have chosen and the temple I have built for Your name; then from heaven, Your dwelling place, hear their prayer and their plea, and uphold their cause.  And forgive Your people who have sinned against You; forgive all the offenses they have committed against You and cause their conquerors to show them mercy.” (1 Kings 8:46-50)

“After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God.  “The time has come,” He said.  “The kingdom of God is near.  Repent and believe the good news!”  (Mark 1:14,15)

Jesus began to denounce the cities in which most of His miracles had been performed, because they did not repent.”  (Matthew 11:20)

“For John came to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the  prostitutes did.  And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.”  (Matthew 21:32)

“But unless you repent, you too will all perish!”  (Luke 13:3)

“Repent then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.”  (Acts 3:19)

“In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now He commands all people everywhere to repent.”  (Acts 17:30)

“…I preached that they should repent and turn to God and prove their repentance by their deeds.”         (Acts 26:20)

“Remember the height from which you have fallen!  Repent and do the things you did at first.  If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand.”  (Revelation 2:16)

“Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.”  (Matthew 3:8)

“I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus.”  (Acts 20:21) (NOTE:  It’s important to point out here, that sadly many versions omit the word ‘Christ’ at the end of this verse, (and many other verses, as well).  See the following translations…As seen above, the New International Version, Common English Bible, God’s Word Translation, Good News Translation, Holdman Christian Standard, Lexham English Bible, New Century Version, New International Readers Version, New Living, New Revised Standard, Today’s New International Version, and Weymouth New Testament.  And the most alarming translation is found in ‘The Message ‘Bible.’  It reads as follows: “…urging Jews and Greeks alike to a radical life change before God and an equally radical trust in our ‘Master Jesus.’ ”  Jesus is referred to as an ‘ascended master’ as well as ‘one of  many christs’ in the ‘new age movement.’ Jesus is referred to as ‘one of the Masters of the Ancient Wisdom’ in ‘Theosophy.’  Do a ‘search’ on ‘Jesus ascended master’ for more information.  There is an attempt to reduce Jesus to a man who evolved to achieved Godhood, and to deify man by claiming we can become God’s.   Do not be deceived!  (Back to verses on ‘repentance)…

“And repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.”  (Luke 24:47)

“Or do you show contempt for the riches of His kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness leads you towards repentance?”  (Romans 2:4)

“Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation, and leaves no regrets, but worldly sorrow brings death.”  (2 Corinthians 7:10)

“Those who oppose him he must gently instruct , in the hope that God will grant him repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape fromthe trap of the devil who has taken  them captive to do his will.”  (2 Timothy 2:25,26)

“The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness.  He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”  (2 Peter 3:9)

All grown up with minds of their own,

The truth of God’s Word they have been clearly shown,

I’d read His Word to them each and every day,

I’d start each morning and end each night, and with them I would earnestly pray,

My children, so precious and dear to my heart,

Have now chosen their own path, O LORD would you please start…

To draw them with Your loving kindness, grant them repentance so they’d turn

 from sin,

Give them eyes to see Your truth, and by Your Spirit cause them to be ‘born again,’

Lord, please reveal Yourself to my son, in a way that he would then believe,

That Your Word is truth, and not “corrupted by men,” and Christ as Savior and Lord

he would then choose to receive,

Help my daughter to see we do not “all worship the same God,” and that Jesus truly

 is the only way,

And that she, along with my son, would repent and surrender to You, and now I

release my children to You and say…

“Out of my hands and into Yours, I pray for Your will to be done,

I trust You, O Lord, with these two precious lives, the lives of my daughter and son.”
