Capture Picture - Preach the Word - Preacher's hand holding Bible

“Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.”                 (2 Timothy 4:2-4)

Welcome to another post in the category of posts entitled, ‘SERMON SUNDAY.’ Lord willing, at least a few times a month I will share a sermon with you by a well respected preacher who focuses on an important truth in Scripture in order to awaken the slumbering church, and also to alert Christians to the importance of reading and studying God’s Word. It may be a short sermon in written form, or I may present something to you in video form. I pray that when time allows, you will take the time to read or to listen to what I will be sharing with you.

I will also be sharing some expository preaching with you, but sadly, that is a very rare thing to find these days. I’m sure that many of you can attest to that undeniable fact. Sadly, many pastors today who seek to grow their churches oftentimes resort to distorting God’s Word either by taking a verse out of context, or by interjecting their own ideas into the text to make it say what they want a verse of Scripture to say (eisegesis). Sometimes a pastor will even go as far as to manipulate Scriptures in such a way so that they can preach about themselves (narcissistic eisegesis).

Then there are some pastors who just present watered down messages with very little Biblical content, and others who ‘preach’ controversial messages that will appeal to today’s culture in order to attract more people. Sadly they will continue ‘preaching’ these types of messages in order to entertain the crowd to keep them coming, rather than preaching God’s Word as they are instructed to do in order to feed and equip the sheep/saints and to expose the sin in men’s hearts so that God will grant them repentance and lead them to a knowledge of the truth.

My main goal in presenting these sermons to you is to point you to Jesus Christ and to make you realize the extreme importance of studying God’s Word and testing the teachings of everyone you listen to in light of Scripture.

Maybe you are one of those people who faithfully stand for Biblical truth and you recently had to leave your church because of what has been taking place as you have witnessed your pastor slowly drift from Biblical truth. Or maybe you left your church many years ago and you still haven’t found a church where the pastor preaches from God’s Word. If so, I have all of you in mind when posting these teachings and videos, as well.

For those who somehow find there way here, I hope and pray that you will be blessed and encouraged by the many Biblical teachings that I will be sharing with you in the weeks and months ahead –Lord willing.

Now for today’s SERMON SUNDAY:

In the video that you will find further below, you will hear Pastor Tom Stegall of Duluth Bible Church preaching from the following passages of Scripture:

O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.” (Jeremiah 10:23)

“Thus saith the Lord; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord. For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.  Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit. The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:5-9)

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.”                        (1 Corinthians 7:39)

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14)

Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” (Amos 3:3)

All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. Let no man seek his own, but every man another’s wealth. Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake: For the earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof. If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake. But if any man say unto you, this is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof: Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man’s conscience? For if I by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?”                                 (1 Corinthians 10:23-30)

“Hast thou faith? Have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth. And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.” (Romans 14:22,23)

The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.” (Proverbs 12:15)

“Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established: And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches. A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength. For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety.” (Proverbs 24:3-6)

“Open rebuke is better than secret love. Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.” (Proverbs 27:5,6)

He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.” (Proverbs 28:9)

They soon forgat his works; they waited not for his counsel. But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert.  And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul.(Psalm 106:13-15)

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” (Proverbs 3:5,6)

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.” (Psalm 37:23)

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.” (Colossians 3:15)

“Pastor Stegall provides some practical, biblical truths regarding the process of determining God’s unrevealed will for the believer in Christ.”

And now here is Pastor Tom Stegall with today’s Sermon Sunday which is entitled, “How To Discern God’s Unrevealed Will In Your Life.”  When time allows I hope that you will consider listening to his message, and that you will be blessed and encouraged by it. As always, please be sure to test everything in light of Scripture as we should always do when listening to someone who is teaching or preaching.                                               (Acts 17:11, 1 Thessalonians 5:21,22)

A. How NOT to Determine God’s Will

God’s will is not to be sought…

1) Through SIGNS

2) Through mysterious CIRCUMSTANCES

4) Through our FEELINGS

B. How TO Determine God’s Will…

1) Always PURSUE the REVEALED will of God first

2) Search the Scriptures for any PRINCIPLES that apply

3) Weigh your spiritual PRIORITIES as you seek the perfect will of God

4) PONDER the Scriptural and practical counsel of mature, spiritual believers

5) Regularly PRAY about your decision with a yielded, submissive spirit

6) Trust in the unfailing PROMISES of God

7) PROCEED with your decision only with the peace of God ruling in your heart

Thank you very much for stopping by and taking time out of your relaxing weekend (at least I hope that it has been so far) to read some of my posts and poems.

God Bless You

As I was searching for videos to add to my upcoming post that I already started working on and hope to have completed by the end of July — Lord willing — “MY TESTIMONY: FROM FEAR AND UNCERTAINTY TO PEACE AND ASSURANCE – HOW GOD REVEALED THE TRUTH TO ME AS I WAS READING A CATHOLIC NEW TESTAMENT BIBLE (PART 3),”  [NOTE: Already completed. See link posted below under Further Reading)…I came across some videos that deeply grieved me! Rather than simply give a short explanation and add them to my testimony post as information for you, I decided to devote an entire post to this important topic to help some of you who are not aware of the teachings of Catholicism come to realize just how unbiblical and without hope their teachings really are! They present many ways that claim to lead to God, but they never point these precious people directly to the one and only way –Jesus Christ.

“Jesus answered,  “I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me.”  (John 14:6)

Catholics wander and search, hoping to find a way to have a deeper connection with God, but the way to Jesus is always blocked in some way.  Or they are led down dangerous mystical paths that only lead to spiritual deception, demonic encounters, and hopeless dead ends.   (That will be a topic I will cover in a future post –Lord willing).  I speak from experience as a former Catholic for many years, who also attended 12 years of Catholic school and went through Catholic Catechism classes so that I could make my ‘First Confession,’ ‘First Communion,’  and ‘Confirmation,’ so I am well aware of their teachings –and even more so now!

Sadly, Mary was and is the primary focus in Catholicism.  Jesus was, and is, always presented to Catholics as if He is in the past: He was born on ‘Christmas,’ He died for our sins, He arose from the dead.  He is just continually present during the mass at the ‘Eucharistic Sacrifice’ when it is believed and taught that during the ‘mass’ the priest speaks the words and the bread and wine literally become the body and blood of Jesus and He is sacrificed for the sins of the living and the dead:

“In the most blessed sacrament of the Eucharist “the body and blood, together with the soul and divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ and, therefore, the whole Christ is truly, really, and substantially contained.”  (Catechism of the Catholic Church Para 1374)

“It is by the conversion of the bread and wine into Christ’s body and blood that Christ becomes present in this sacrament.”  (Catechism of the Catholic Church Para 1375)

“If anyone shall say that the Sacrifice of the Mass is only of praise and thanksgiving, or a bare commemoration of the sacrifice performed on the cross, but not propitiatory; or that it is of benefit only to the person who takes it, and ought not to be offered for the living and the dead for sins, punishments, satisfactions, and other necessities, let him be accursed.”  (The Council of Trent on the Sacrifice of the Mass Canon 3)

And since Catholics are taught and believe that Jesus is present in the Eucharist, certain days and times are set aside when Catholics gather together and the communion wafer is placed in an elaborate decorative holder called a ‘monstrance’ and is publicly worshiped in a way referred to as ‘Eucharistic Adoration.’

“It is highly fitting that Christ should have wanted to remain present to His Church in this unique way.  Since Christ was about to take his departure from his own in his visible form, he wanted to give us his sacramental presence; since he was about to offer himself on the cross to save us, he wanted us to have the memorial of the love with which he loved us “to the end,” even to the giving of His life.  In his Eucharistic presence he remains mysteriously in our midst as the one who loved us and gave himself up for us, and he remains under signs that express and communicate this love: The church and the world have a great need for Eucharistic worship.  Jesus awaits us in this sacrament of love.  Let us not refuse the time to go to meet him in adoration, in contemplation full of faith, and open to making amends for the serious offenses and crimes of the world.  Let our adoration never cease.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church Para 1380)

But what does God’s Word say to us?  Jesus said the following in John 14:15-20, 25-27

“If you love me, keep My commandments.  And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever– the Spirit of truth.  The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him, nor knows him.  But you know him, for he lives with you, and will be in you.  I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.  Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me.  Because I live, you also will live.  On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.”

“All this I have spoken while still with you.  But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.  Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.  I do not give to you as the world gives.  Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

Lest you fail to test things in light of Scripture and are drawn to experience this unbiblical mystical practice yourself — a practice that is not only leading many Catholics astray because they so desire to know Jesus and aren’t being taught Scriptural truths that will clearly reveal Jesus to them, but also this practice has enticed and led astray many Christians — I share this video with you by Roger Oakland from Understand The Times,’ entitled, ‘ANOTHER JESUS‘:

Now on to the main reason for this post:

While listening to a video series that follows the one below, I became filled with a righteous anger because of what this priest was presenting to the people!  Many people who were obviously there because they wanted to draw closer to Jesus were being told they had to “go through Mary” to reach Him!  This idea came from a book entitled, True Devotion To The Blessed Virgin’ and was written by Louis de Montfort and called for ‘a total consecration to Jesus Christthrough Mary.’  Here’s a video with a portion of that book read aloud, claiming that Louis de Montfort is, “speaking from heaven in his own words.”  In part, starting at the 1:22 minute mark, you will hear the blasphemous statement calling Mary ‘the spouse of the Holy Spirit.’

In the following four part video series ‘Total Consecration to Jesus Through Mary,’ Catholic priest, Roy Tvedik shares  many books and suggests ways to prepare people for ‘the consecration to Jesus through Mary, none of which are Biblical but rather likened to the teachings of mystics such as Thomas Keating.  Here are a few things you will hear in the following 4 part series.  This was taken from Part 2:

1) Empty yourself of the spirit of the world

2) Knowledge of the self; the true self

3) Knowledge of Mary; theology of Mary

4) Knowledge of Jesus; incarnate wisdom

In the above video series, “true devotion to Mary” is presented as the way to ‘draw closer to Jesus,‘  and Catholic priest, Roy Tvrdik, had the following to say (in Part 1, which is directly above) concerning the book written by St. Louis de Montfort:

“…so Montfort began to realize, ‘You know, the folks who have a devotion to Mary…a true devotion to Mary.. those folks  seem to draw closer to the Lord.’  From his own experience and in his preaching and teaching, he began to invite people to make a consecration –to Jesus, through Mary.”

Concerning ‘devotion to Mary,Montfort said:

“...it is not something extra that we do, it is something essential. you must have devotion to Mary.  because if you have devotion to Mary,  she is the one who will bring us the closest to Christ.”

As you can see, not only are Catholics being led astray by false doctrine, but also instead of going to God’s Word to answer their questions, oftentimes priests will quote from other sources that either give distorted Biblical truth or completely unbiblical information.  For example, in the following video a woman asks a question concerning ‘suffering;’ she wanted him to expound on the idea of ‘taking up the cross of Jesus and loving the cross.’  Even though this video is entitled, ‘Knowledge of Jesus Christ,‘  he read from a book called,  My Ideal — Jesus Son of Mary‘ which is a book written from the perspective of what Jesus would say about Mary and what Mary would say about Jesus, which gave it almost a ‘Jesus Calling’ sort of feel to it.

In the video above, the priest also mentions St. Faustina (Maria Faustina Kowalska) who is said to have had visions of Jesus and many conversations with Him, as well.  The following is one among many things ‘Jesus’ supposedly said to her.  This message was concerning the image of ‘Jesus’ that you saw at the very top of this post and can also be read in the video I posted below:

“I promise that the soul that will venerate this image will not perish.  I also promise victory over [its] enemies already here on earth, especially at the hour of death.  I myself will defend it as my own glory.”

I’m sorry. But the true Jesus Christ of the Bible would not have told anyone to have an image of Him made and to ‘venerate’ that image when God’s Word clearly forbids this!

“You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.”  (Exodus 20:4)

“Do not make idols or set up an image or a sacred stone for yourselves, and do not place a carved stone in your land to bow down before it.  I am the LORD your God.”  (Leviticus 26:1)

“Therefore since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver–an image made my man’s design and skill.  In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now He commands all people everywhere to repent.  For He has set a day when He will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed.  He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead.”  (Acts 17:29-31)

In this video you will read one of the many messages supposedly received by Maria Faustina Kowalska from Jesus. This would be considered an extra-Biblical revelation which is unscriptural. We must ‘examine the Scriptures daily to see if what is being said it true.‘ (Acts 17:11) God’s Word warns of lying signs and wonders (2 Thessalonians 2:9-12) and spiritual deception in the last days (Luke 21:7,8, 1 Timothy 4:1) , and this is clearly one of them:

According to Hebrews 1:1,2 God revealed everything that we need to know through Jesus Christ.

“God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom He hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also He made the worlds.” (Hebrews 1:1,2)

The Jesus presented in Catholicism is not the Jesus of the Bible.  Their teachings present Jesus as the risen Savior, yes.  But not as the victor over sin.  Jesus is still portrayed as being crucified on the cross in every Catholic church by the display of crucifixes and He is still being sacrificed on altars in every Catholic church daily all around the world for the sins of the living and the dead.  If you’d like to learn more about what the Catholic church teaches in light of Scripture, you can read ‘Part 3‘ of my testimony that, Lord willing, as I mentioned earlier, I am hoping to have completed by the end of July.  [NOTE: Links to all three parts of my testimony is posted below.] In the mean time, please consider going to the following web sites where you will find excellent information on Catholicism and how it compares to God’s Word, the Bible.

Mike Gendron and Rob Zins are both former Roman Catholics and present the truth in a loving and caring manner.  I have a deep respect for both of these men and their ministries.  Here are samplings of their excellent teachings for you:

May I encourage you to please share the Biblical gospel with a precious Catholic person whenever God gives you an opportunity to do so.  Let the light of Christ shine through you to pierce through their darkness with the truth of God’s Word that can set them free.  Let them know that they can have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ alone.  Share Scriptures with them and pray that by God’s Holy Spirit their minds will be opened to the truth of who Jesus really is that can clearly be found in God’s Word.  What joy they will find when they are led directly to Jesus Christ Himself and discover that He paid the debt of their sin in full!!  They will then find true peace and realize they can have assurance of salvation!

“I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.” (1 John 5:13)
