Capture Eyes with tears 1UPDATED 1/26/15 1:30 P.M. ADDED MATT CHANDLER PART 1 OF ‘MINGLING OF SOULS’

This is another post in a new series of posts that I will be doing (Lord willing) at least once a month on Wednesdays (actually this one was published a little after midnight, so it’s now actually Thursday, but on with my post) so that I can make you all aware of some important information that I come across on the Internet that you may not have heard about. I have been trying to think of something that I could write on a regular basis that would be short and to the point (at least I’ll try to be), and since I am a detective-at-heart and desire to make you all aware of the importance of testing things in light of Scripture (Acts 17:11), the idea to do these posts — as well as the name — came to my mind in November of 2014, based on Acts 20:26-31:

“For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God. Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which He bought with His own blood. I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears.”

So with that in mind, here are some of the things I’d like to make you all aware of on this Wednesday …um, Thursday:

Matt Chandler is the pastor of the Village Church in Texas. And as you can see from the quick capture below, “Harvest Bible Chapel is excited to host Pastor Matt Chandler and the Mingling of Souls Conference.”

Capture Harvest Bible Chapel - Matt Chandler - Mingling of Souls Conference

This conference will take place at Harvest Bible Chapel Rolling Meadows on Friday, January 30th, at 7:00 p.m., and is based on the book of the Bible, the Song of Solomon. I posted this as a warning not only for those of you who attend either Harvest Bible Chapel Rolling Meadows (my former church for almost fifteen years) or any of the other HBC locations in the Chicago area, but also as a warning to any one else in the area who may be considering attending this conference and may not be aware of who Matt Chandler is, in order to alert all of you to some of the concerns that many Christians have about him. If you’re interested in knowing what some of these valid concerns are, please consider reading one of my previous posts, HARVEST BIBLE CHAPEL ROLLING MEADOWS BEWARE OF MATT CHANDLER, in which I added a lot of information not only in the post, but also in the comment section.

**ADDED 1/26/15** Below is Session 1 of The Mingling of Souls Conference that I hesitated to post when I first wrote this last week, but I decided to post it today, 1/26/15, in order to give you a clearer understanding of what you will probably hear if you choose to attend this conference. Watching this video may also change your mind about going and save you some valuable time and money!

In spite of the fact that Matt Chandler says he is “not trying to be crass” by saying some of what you will hear him say within the first portion of this video, the words he chose to say are unbecoming and unnecessary to say by someone who calls himself a pastor.

He has a lot of good things to say in this video, but nothing beyond what a praying and discerning Christian should already know concerning healthy, God-honoring relationships. Sadly, he also uses God’s name and Jesus’ name irreverently four times in this video: at the 3:22 minute mark, the 3:32 minute mark, during the 5:50-6:09 minute mark, and at the 6:33 minute mark. A pastor’s greatest desire should be to live, to speak, and to teach in such a way that it will be pleasing to God, and not in such a way so as to be liked and accepted by men. God’s Word is clear to those who choose to be teachers, saying that “those who teach will be judged more strictly.” (James 3:1)

Parents, please read THIS article from Lighthouse Trails so you are aware of what some of your children are being taught in many public schools these days.

Speaking of school and what is being taught these days, have you heard about Common Core Curiculum? Please watch the following video so you are informed.

Read the following article and you will see  A (VERY SAD) SIGN OF THE TIME WE LIVE IN — KEN HAM — ANSWERS IN GENESIS

In case any of you have been wondering what Rob Bell has been up to lately, read THIS article by ‘STAND UP FOR THE TRUTH.’

We are living in trying times that can be viewed as exciting times, as well, because the signs of the soon return of Jesus are more evident with each passing day! Would you be ready if Jesus came today? Have you placed your trust in what Jesus did when He died in your place, taking the full wrath of God upon Himself that was intended for us because of our sins? Or are you trying to earn God’s forgiveness by trying your best and hoping the good you do will outweigh the bad things you have done? “Choose this day whom you will serve.” (Joshua 24:15) Tomorrow is promised to no one, so seek Him while there is still time!

“First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water. By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly. But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.” (2 Peter 3:3-13)

Thank you for stopping by. And thank you very much for taking the time to read my posts and poems.

God bless you.

UPDATED 5/6/15 I enlarged and darkened the print to make this post easier for you to read on my new blog design. Lord willing, I will be doing this to all my previous posts, as well, when time allows).

INTRODUCTION

Well, I was planning on spending the day writing my testimony.  However, before I began writing I happened to see this tweet made on Twitter, (by an ‘unnamed person’ who will remain anonymous for their protection) that James MacDonald has informed everyone of the fact that Matt Chandler will be preaching at Harvest this weekend, May 25th and 26th 2013:

Capture james matt chandler

The sermon that Matt preached at Steven Furtick’s 2012 Code Orange Revival (which is the video I posted above) was the only Biblically solid message presented at this ‘revival.’ Matt not only gave a clear presentation of the gospel, but he also gave a much-needed rebuke and correction to Steven Furtick and others at this ‘revival’ who were focusing and praising  themselves and their ministries, rather than repenting, preaching God’s Word, and focusing on and praising God. Those are the true signs of  revival! If you’re interested, I encourage you to listen to his message, when time allows.

I rejoiced while listening to Matt’s message because he was the only one who presented solid Biblical truth at this ‘revival.’ In spite of the fact that many of us have valid concerns about him, he was still like a light shining in the darkness that night. When he spoke the truths of God’s Word, it exposed the pride and arrogance that was in the hearts of these other pastors as they spoke and praised one another. However, I found it necessary to write this short post in order to warn all of you at Harvest Bible Chapel Rolling Meadows that Matt Chandler promotes mysticism; unbiblical, and even occultic practices that are said to draw a person closer to God. When something other than reading the Word of God in context is suggested to a Christian as a means to have a deeper, more intimate relationship with God, consider it a BIG red flag!

On Matt Chandler’s Village Church website, you will see a list of books on their ‘Recommended Reading’ list. They also have the following disclaimer posted:

However, as a shepherd who is supposed to watch over and protect his sheep from the many wolves in sheep’s clothing, if Matt does “not endorse or believe all that is written in these books,” wouldn’t you think that he would protect his sheep and not even consider adding these books to their ‘recommended reading’ list? But because of the fact that he promotes ‘contemplative prayer’ as shown in the article posted by Pastor Ken Silva of Apprising Ministries, (see link posted below under ‘Further Reading’) it is clear that he in fact does endorse and believe in mysticism and contemplative prayer.

Here are some examples of the books that promote mysticism that are included on Matt Chandler’s Village Church website on their ‘Recommended Reading’ list. On page 12 the book ‘Sacred Marriage’ by Gary Thomas is listed:

Besides writing the book, ‘Sacred Marriage,’ Gary Thomas has also written the book, ‘Sacred Pathways’ in which he says the following which is posted on ‘Lighthouse Trails’ website and ‘quick captured’ for you below:

Also on page 17 of Matt Chandler’s Village Church’s Recommended Reading list, another book, ‘The Ragamuffin Gospel’ written by Brennan Manning, who also promotes mysticism, is recommended:

All that to say: Harvest Bible attendees, beware of Matt Chandler! Test all you will hear him say against the truth of God’s Word. (Acts 17:11) Search these things out to see if these things are true, and please keep your eyes on Jesus and in His Word so you will never be led astray. I am praying for all of you.

SCRIPTURES FOR YOU TO REFLECT ON

“Now the Spirit speaketh expressly that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith , giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils…”      (1 Timothy 4:1)

“In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe.” (Hebrews 1:1,2)

“Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage–with great patience and careful instruction.  For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine.  Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.  They will turn their ears from the truth and turn aside to myths.” (2 Timothy 4:2-4)

“Be self-controlled and alert.  Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8)

“Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures daily to see if what Paul said was true.” (Acts 17:11)

“Therefore I declare to you that I am innocent of the blood of all men.  For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God. Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears.” (Acts 20:26-31)

CONCERNS ABOUT MATT CHANDLER ‘S THE VILLAGE CHURCH- ‘STEAK AND A BIBLE’

PURPOSE DRIVEL: MATT CHANDLER, CALVINIST MYSTIC, DOESN’T BELIEVE IN SOLA SCRIPTURA

Not only are people concerned about Matt’s promotion of ‘mysticism/Contemplative Spirituality,’ but also there are many who are concerned about certain things that he teaches.  As you can see from the quick capture below of a portion of a review of Matt Chandler’s book ‘THE EXPLICIT GOSPEL,’ Pastor Gary Gilley of Southern View Chapel explains just one of the problems he finds in Matt’s book, and calls it what it is: “unbiblical.”
